Paint can be seen everywhere in our life, and we are not unfamiliar with it. Perhaps for the coatings learned in life, they are more solvent based or thermosetting. However, the current development trend is UV paint, which is an environmentally friendly green paint.
UV paint, known as “innovative and environmentally friendly green paint in the 21st century”, is developing at a rate of more than twice the annual consumption. The emergence of UV paint will make earth shaking changes in the application pattern of traditional coatings. What is UV paint? What far-reaching impact will its emergence have on the furniture manufacturing industry?
What is UV paint?
UV paint refers to ultra violet curing paint, that is, a resin coating that uses UV as curing energy and quickly crosslinks at room temperature. Ultraviolet light is generated by special equipment, and the process that the irradiated object produces a chemical reaction through UV light radiation and changes from liquid to solid is called UV curing process.
UV curing technology is an energy-saving, clean and environment-friendly technology. It saves energy – its energy consumption is only one fifth of that of thermal curing. It contains no solvents, has little pollution to the ecological environment, and will not emit toxic gas and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. It is known as “green technology”. UV curing technology is a kind of photoprocessing technology that enables the liquid epoxy acrylic resin to be polymerized into a solid state at a high speed by UV irradiation with a certain wavelength. Photo curing reaction is essentially a photo initiated polymerization and cross-linking reaction. UV curable coatings have been unanimously recognized by the coating industry because of their high-efficiency coating curing and environment-friendly characteristics.
How much do you know about UV paint? In 1968, Bayer took the lead in using the UV curing system of unsaturated resin and benzoic acid to produce commercial products, and developed the first generation of UV curing coatings. In the early 1970s, Sun Chemical Company and immontconciso company developed UV curable ink successively.
In the early 1980s, Taiwan’s flooring manufacturers began to invest and build factories in the mainland, and uvpaint application and production technology were also introduced. Before the mid-1990s, uvcoatings were mainly used for bamboo and wood floor processing and plastic cover polishing, and were mainly transparent.
In recent years, with the large-scale processing of domestic furniture, uvpaint has gradually entered the field of wood coating, and its advantages have been widely recognized. At present, uvpaint has been widely used in paper, plastic, metal, glass, ceramics and other fields, and is developing in the direction of functionalization.
Market prospect of UV coatings
UV paint, how much do you know about the traditional coatings used in the domestic furniture industry at present are still mainly Pu, PE and NC. Through spraying construction, the efficiency is low, and it is difficult to recruit workers and the labor cost is high. Only by improving the degree of production automation of furniture manufacturing enterprises can they break the bottleneck of development and improve enterprise efficiency. On the other hand, the VOC emitted by furniture factories using traditional coatings has become an important source of environmental pollution. At present, low-carbon economy and green consumption are popular, which will inevitably produce new technical standards and trade barriers. Developed countries such as Europe and the United States have formulated and issued a number of regulatory measures to stimulate the furniture industry to develop towards green and environmental protection. Domestic furniture manufacturers, especially export-oriented enterprises, are facing the only challenges before.
Under the background of the development of the industry, uvcoatings comply with the trend of the times and become a new trend in the development of furniture coating. Its advantages as an environment-friendly and energy-saving and emission reduction coating are gradually emerging, which has also attracted the attention of relevant national departments. The 11th Five Year Plan for the development of the coating industry and the medium and long term development plan for the science and technology of the coating industry clearly put forward the need to vigorously develop environmentally friendly UV coatings. UV paint is about to take off for the first time in the industry, and the market prospect is immeasurable.
